| Catfisherwayne
is my username, and it says a lot about who I am. I was
born October 26, 1956 to Leavette and Adele Cochran. I
am the youngest of eight children. My family had been
hunting gators and frogs, and catfishing since before
I was born. By the time I worked in the family business,
we only catfished. We fished trotlines and traps in the
fresh water lakes of central Florida. I spent a lot of
time on Lake Apopka. Our house was about a mile from Magnolia
Park in a small fishing village, Paradise Heights. |
| I
lived in the same house my whole life until I married
Janette Busbee. We were both sixteen. Our fourth child
was born when we were twenty-one. We worked hard at catfishing,
but got very little for our efforts. I would take a job
on the muck farm or citrus packinghouse when fishing was
bad, and then quit those jobs when fishing was better. |
| We
moved to Graceville, Florida when we were twenty-seven.
I attended college and we both worked low wage jobs. That
was one of the happiest times of my life. I changed my
major a couple times. I missed my home, and almost quit
a few times. Once I told Dr. Lee that I was considering
quitting school. He said there is value in finishing that
is beyond the knowledge acquired, skills, and diploma.
I think he was right. I graduated with a bachelor of ministry
with education/music. I learned plenty from my studies,
but finishing may have been the greatest lesson learned. |
| When
I was a kid, the main entertainment for my family was
either listening to music, or making music. Three of my
five older brothers played guitar. So, naturally I also
played guitar. Guitar is still the instrument I feel most
comfortable playing, and I most always use guitar when
I write a song. |
| When
I was in college, I sang in an eighteen voice men’s
choir. I usually worked in churches leading congregational
singing and conducting mixed choirs. I would sing solo
with my guitar nearly every week. I wrote a lot of songs
and one Christmas cantata. |
| I
worked at Disney’s Fort Wilderness’ “Campfire
Program” for about eight years. We sang singing-a-long
songs with groups as small as one family (my favorite),
or as large as about 500. |
| I
think I may have written a few good songs over the years.
The purpose of this site is to share those songs with
my family and friends. I don’t fish trotlines anymore.
I write songs. It’s a lot like catfishing. There
is plenty of work, and I enjoy it. I hope these hooks
will catch more fish. |
